Cargo Fuel Surcharge (ex. HKG)
Given the IATA Jet Fuel Price of $77.49 the latest Cargo Fuel Surcharge for long-haul will be HKD 3.30/kg and short-haul will be HKD 0.80/kg, effective 1 May 2025.
How our Cargo Fuel Surcharge calculations work
We levy CFS using IATA Jet Fuel Price (the Asia & Oceania specific fuel price) as the Prevailing Oil Price. This will be monitored weekly. Ex-Hong Kong we use the Asia and Oceania specific fuel price as per the IATA Jet Fuel Price table. The IATA Jet Fuel Price is in turn based on leading energy information provider Platts. The Jet Fuel Price data shows the average prices paid at the refinery for aviation jet fuel for the reported week.
The IATA Jet Fuel Price is the average price of the week at the end of day 5, i.e. Friday, and is published on the IATA website on the following Monday or Tuesday (in case of a public holiday it’s the following working day).
DHL Air UK Ltd will track the index weekly, solely for the purpose determining of fuel surcharge. The decision to adapt the fuel surcharge (higher or lower) is based on the fuel price value as of the second Friday of every month.
The Cargo Fuel Surcharge is then adapted accordingly for both short-haul and long-haul flights.
An example:
The fuel price as of the second Friday of the current month is $83.44 This fuel price falls under the fuel range of $81 to $85.99 in the CFS Index below. Based on this fuel price, the long-haul Cargo Fuel Surcharge is calculated to HKD 3.30/kg and for short-haul is HKD 0.9/kg. If this CFS is different to the previous level, the new fuel surcharge should be communicated to customers and relevant authorities by the third working day of the following week latest.
The new fuel surcharge level will be in effect from the 1st of the following month. In case the new calculated CFS level remains stable, there is no change for customers and no change communicated.

*Short-haul flights: flights ex-Hong Kong Asia (excluding South Asia and Oceania).
**Long-haul flights: flights ex-Hong Kong to the United States (USA), South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia and Oceania.
